Hide That Can (Trolley, 2002)
'Hide That Can' is a culmination of four years I spent photographing the men of Arlington House, a hostel for recovering alcoholics in Camden, London. Many of the residents are Irish men who came London for work in the 50’s and 60’s, and – as an Irish person myself – I found myself compelled by their stories and lives. The photographs in this book show these men both in their adopted English home, and in trips to Ireland made possible by the Aisling Project (for many, their first return to Ireland in over 40 years). This work was exhibited at the Gallery of Photography, Dublin and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The book was awarded Publication of The Year by both the International Center of Photography, New York and Arles Recontres De La Photographie, France.
